The 7 Days Uganda Rwanda Wildlife Safari enables you to explore the wildlife and other attractions in these two countries without gorilla trekking. The safari takes you through Lake Mburo National Park where you have opportunities of encountering the Impala antelope, the Burchell’s Zebra, Topis and Elands, Queen Elizabeth National Park with tree climbing lions, elephants, Buffalos, Kobs, leopards, Nile crocodiles and Hippos. It also incorporates the thrilling boat encounter in Lake Bunyonyi dubbed the lake of a thousand islands, the Batwa heritage in Mgahinga, Dian Fossey site in Volcanoes and Gisozi genocide memorial in Kigali.

 Detailed Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park and afternoon boat cruise

After breakfast, embark on the transfer to Lake Mburo National Park 240km about 3 – 4 hours’ drive. You head to the country’s south west and make a stop at Uganda Equator crossing Kayabwe for impressive photo shots and water experiments that justifies the geographical divide between the north and southern hemispheres. You proceed to Lake Mburo National Park where on arrival; you will undertake a thrilling boat cruise on Lake Mburo. You have opportunities to encounter the Hippos, Nile crocodiles and water birds like the African fish eagle and African fin foot along the cruise. The sun set views of the lake are impressive too. Retreat for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Do morning game walking and transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

After breakfast, embark on a thrilling game walking safari after the sunrise to explore the impressive savannah acacia landscapes with rolling hills marked with protruding  Kopje rocks and ancient Precambrian rocks that have existed in the area for over 500 million years past. The animals that can be encountered include; Impala antelope which only exist in Lake Mburo NP, Burchell’s Zebra, Rothschild Giraffes, Topis, water bucks, warthogs, among other wildlife. Retreat from the 3 – 4 hour activity and embark on the transfer back to Queen Elizabeth National Park 180km about 3 hours’ drive arriving in the afternoon for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Do morning game drive and afternoon Kazinga Channel Launch cruise

After an early morning cup of coffee, embark on the game drive in the rolling savannah plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park extending to the Kasenyi tracks exploring the park’s unique landscape dotted with counts of wildlife including lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, water bucks, jackals among others. The activity lasts 3 – 4 hours after which you return to the lodge for relaxation and lunch after which you transfer to Mweya jetty for an afternoon boat cruise along the Paradise of Hippos. The Kazinga Channel which stretches to 45km in length at one time had great concentrations of Hippopotamus in the region which prompted the management to carry out the great Hippo culling of 1960s. You enjoy the view of the Nile crocodiles not forgetting other wild game drinking on the channel shores, Retreat from the 2 hour activity, di a game along the channel track as you head to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi. Do a game drive in Ishasha in search of tree climbing lions

After breakfast, embark to Lake Bunyonyi 289km about 8 hours’ drive. You undertake a game drive in Ishasha sector in search of tree climbing lions along with other wild game. The tree climbing lions tend to lie on fig tree branches in the mid-morning sun.  After this encounter, continue on the drive to Lake Bunyonyi driving through the fascinating Kigezi Highlands arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Do sun rise boat cruise and transfer to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

After a relaxed breakfast, embark on a sun rise boat cruise on the lake exploring the scenic landscapes of the lake and reach out to some of its 29 Islands amidst the rolling hills of Kigezi. The 3 – 4 hour boat cruise is a rewarding adventure worth undertaking. Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to Mgahinga arriving in the evening for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Undertake the Batwa heritage trail and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, embark on the Batwa heritage exploration. The Batwa are known to have inhabited the forest before they were evicted to pave way for conservation of mountain gorillas. The slopes of the Volcanoes were their ancient home and the forest cover present not only shelter but food and medicine. You walk in the many of the Batwa guide interpreting a range of aspects including how they used to thrive in forests, methods of food gathering and extraction, crafting of vacuous utensils from the material available among other aspects before approaching the famous Ngarama cave which was their center and the home to their chief. Retreat from 6 – 7 hour activity and transfer to Volcanoes National Park for relaxation, dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Hike Dian Fossey site and transfer to Kigali. Visit the Gisozi genocide

After breakfast, embark on the hike to the Dian Fossey site to encounter her tomb and that of her most favorite silverback Digit. The world’s famous mountain gorilla conservationist was an American by origin who dedicated her life to study and advocate for the conservation of these critically endangered species. Her research station at Karisoke was the center for the entire programme. The hike to Dian Fossey site involves trekking the mountain slopes though it not all that hectic and tends to last 4 hours. Retreat from the activity and embark on the transfer to Kigali 116km about 3 hours’ drive passing through impressive hillsides of Rwanda that have earned it a dub as the land of a thousand hills. If you arrive in Kigali in time, you continue and visit the Gisozi genocide memorial which is a living testimony of the horrific genocide that befell Rwanda in the year 1994.
